Sunset, the Motława River and the music of Fryderyk Chopin return to Gdańsk this summer as the Polish Baltic Philharmonic hosts a series of intimate piano recitals throughout July 2026
As summer evenings settle over Gdańsk, the Polish Baltic Philharmonic once again invites audiences to experience classical music in an exceptional setting. Chopin on the Motława River 2026 returns with a series of evening piano recitals held in the Philharmonic's foyer overlooking the river.
The annual concert series combines the music of Fryderyk Chopin with the atmosphere of one of Gdańsk's most recognisable waterfront locations. Beginning in July, the programme features 13 concerts performed by competition winners, experienced pianists and professors from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
Starting at 8:30 pm, each performance takes place during the evening hours when the changing light over the Motława creates a distinctive backdrop for Chopin's compositions.
A Summer Tradition by the River
The series has become a popular part of Gdańsk's summer cultural calendar, offering audiences a more intimate alternative to traditional concert halls.
Rather than focusing only on large-scale performances, Chopin on the Motława River creates an opportunity to experience classical piano music in a relaxed setting. The foyer of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, with its views towards the river, provides a connection between music, architecture and the city's maritime character.

Classical Music in a Unique Gdańsk Setting
The popularity of Chopin on the Motława River reflects Gdańsk's wider cultural identity, where historic spaces, waterfront locations and contemporary events regularly come together.
For visitors exploring the city during the summer season, the concerts offer a chance to combine an evening of classical music with one of Gdańsk's most scenic areas. The location on Ołowianka Island, beside the Motława River, places the performances within walking distance of the city's historic centre.
